North London IT Support joins the zooming revolution – last week we made our first Prezi for a 10-minute presentation slot at our local business networking meeting BNI Alliance.

We wanted something fun and orginal to show our audience of BNI members and guests, so they would be inspired to recommend us to their clients.

Prezi is a cloud-based whiteboard on which you can devise all sorts of presentations using really cool visuals to enhance your words and ideas. You zoom in and out of your chosen graphics to ensure that your salient points are highlighted in an engaging and exciting way.

You can use a template (we did) if you can find one that fits with the theme of your presentation, or design a Prezi from scratch if you’re feeling brave.

It is very easy to learn and the Prezi website gives you a lot of handy hints and tips on how to start - if you get stuck you can quickly search for a solution.

Prezi is free to use online, although if you want to work offline there is a subscription charge (currently there is a month’s free trial). You can use it on desktop PCs or on your mobile Apple or Android device and as it’s on the Cloud, you can of course access it from wherever you happen to be. You could even make changes to the Prezi during a meeting if you are using it for that purpose.

So Prezi can be used in meetings – to show a small audience your ideas, as a presentation tool to larger groups – watch them realise that there’s more to life than Powerpoint, and for the education and non-profit sectors to help in classrooms and at charity events.

Maintenance for your IT systems is something that has become a critical part of any small to medium sized business success strategy. We have been working hard with local businesses in Barnet, Haringey and other North London boroughs to ensure that they are aware of the benefits of this service along with the risks associated with having little or no agreement in place with a local IT Support Maintenance company.

For example, just this week we were contacted by a local business who had a failed hard disk on their main computer system. They quickly told us that they were no warning signs from the computer and no indication that it was going to fail. They had no backups and had lost significant amounts of critical business data. Main Responsibilities

Troubleshooting and solving IT problems on PCs and Macs on a daily basis, either on site or at clients’ offices or homes.

Call handling: answering customer queries directly on the phone where required and maintaining accurate records

Maintaining client databases with up-to-date solutions and keeping a clear record of all activities involved in the call tracking software. This is an auditable activity and must contain up-to-date records.

Installation of computers and peripheral devices (eg printers, scanners, mobile/smart phones).

Explaining technical issues in a clear way to non-technical clients.

Answering the phone in a professional manner and, if relevant passing on any information promptly.

Assisting with customer presentations in bids to win new prospects and customers.

Key Skills/Qualifications required

Educated to A level or equivalent (relevant degree desirable)

Excellent English communication and language skills.

Microsoft/Apple Certifications, Comptia and Cisco certifications desirable.

Good understanding of computer support, this would include troubleshooting skills for the following operating systems: Windows XP, Vista, 7, Mac OSX, Windows Server products, 2003/2008/2011

Excellent customer service skills (face-to-face and telephone based)

Ability to work responsibly with sensitive customer data, taking the appropriate steps to ensure integrity of such data at all times.

Ability to work as part of a small team.

One of our directors (David Roth) lives in East Finchley – it’s all about N2. David says – “having lived in the area for many years, it is a shame there are no reliable computer specialists available on the high street”.
